About Us:
Sanskrit, the embodiment of ancient wisdom, has paved the way for India’s prolific philosophical, cultural, and scientific heritage preserved and passed down for millennia. The Department of Sanskrit Sahitya, established in 1982 upholds its legacy of excellence in promoting and propagating the time immemorial ancient wisdom enshrined in the Sanskrit language. In 1991, when the college upgraded to the graduate level, the first undergraduate course offered at Sreekrishnapuram V T Bhattathiripad College was graduation in Sanskrit Sahitya.
Distinctiveness:
One of its key offerings is Sanskrit Sahitya honours, which has been integral to the college's academic portfolio since its inception. Aligned with the motto of our college "तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय ", we strive to inspire a journey from the darkness of ignorance to the eternal light of knowledge. By embracing the principles enshrined in this Upanishadic mantra our department is committed to upholding the legacy by delving deep into the study of Sanskrit language and its contribution to literature, Philosophy, art, architecture, and culture.
Over the past years, the department has made a flawless contribution by producing a strong order of previous students who are elegantly placed in various institutions of Collegiate education and other fields.
Research promotion:
Moreover, the department has organized various National and International Seminars, workshops, invited lectures, and conferences in Indian philosophy, Computational Linguistics, Aesthetics, Performing Arts, Sanskrit Grammar, and Literature. Also, extended various cultural exchange and Outreach programs in the wider community beyond the confines of Academia. The department has produced a series of publications.
NEP Promotion:
Aligned with NEP, following the curriculum of FYUGP, University of Calicut, the Department of Sanskrit offers two minor courses, Discipline Specific Core Courses, Multi-Disciplinary Courses, Discipline Specific Electives, Value Added Courses and Skill Enhancement courses. Through its vast repository of Vedas, Upanishads, Epics, aphorisms, and other classical works, Sanskrit embodies the essence of our traditional knowledge system. Rooted in the timeless Vedic tradition extending to the practical knowledge enshrined in Ayurveda, Surgery, Mathematics, and Astronomy, it has profoundly shaped the intellectual and cultural fabric of our society.
