The Department of Computer Science came into existence in 2001 at Sreekrishnapuram V. T. Bhattathiripad College. Computer Science was introduced as a subsidiary subject for the Under Graduate Programme in Mathematics from 1996 onwards. However with the inception of MSc Computer Science in 2001, it grew up to become an independent department. The Government of Kerala was kind enough to give sanction to start MSc Computer Science Post Graduate course, at Sreekrishnapuram V. T. Bhattathiripad College affiliated to the University of Calicut along with three other colleges in Kozhikode district, under the jurisdiction of University of Calicut. A Post Graduate department in Computer Science in aided stream was the first of its kind in the rural areas of Palakkad district.
The department marked its humble beginning in 2001with Dr. Saritha Namboodiri, taking charge as the Head of the Department. The department began its journey by bagging Second Rank in Calicut University Examination 2003 and was able gather more laurels and ranks in the years ahead. The team of three permanent Assistant professors joined in 2013.
