V T Pathanakendram at a Glance

The V. T. Pahanakēndra at Sreekrishnapuram V. T. Bhattathiripad College is dedicated to promoting the legacy and preserving the works of V. T. Bhattathiripad. V. T. Bhattathiripad (popularly known as VT) was a prominent social reformer, playwright, and writer in Kerala. VT was instrumental in the renaissance movement in Kerala, advocating for progressive changes in society, especially against caste discrimination and social injustices. He was best known for his contributions to reforming the casteism and conservatism prevalent in the Namboothiri community. Among his numerous writings are the play "Adukkalayail Ninnu Arangathekku" and his autobiography "Kanneerum Kinavum" ("Tears and Dreams" in English), both of which are considered notable works in Malayalam literature. In recognition of his contributions, the Kerala Sahitya Akademi honored him with a distinguished fellowship in 1976. As a mark of tribute to the great renaissance leader, the college is named after him, and his principles are adopted as the mission of the college.

The college formed a V. T. Anusmarana Samithi in 2000 to propagate and celebrate Bhattathiripad's legacy. V. T. Anusmarana Samithi is chaired by the Principal and an eleven-member Governing Body elected annually. The committee organizes talks and seminars to foster a broader understanding of his legacy among students and the community. The college commemorates February 12th as V T Day. On this day VT Puraskaram, an Award instituted in the name of V T Bhattathiripad, is bestowed to exceptional individuals who demonstrate outstanding achievements in social reform, art, and other fields.

In 2019, the V. T. Anusmarana Samithi underwent a major transformation when M. N. Karassery, a renowned social reformer, proposed establishing a Paṭhanakēndraṃ in the name of V. T. Bhattathiripad and integrating the V. T. Anusmarana Samithi under this new entity. As a result, the V. T. Paṭhanakēndraṃ was founded.
